GILROY, Calif. —

A 20-year-old woman was killed in a one-car crash in Gilroy early Saturday morning, police said.

Officers responded around 2:55 a.m. to a report of a single-vehicle crash in the 8300 block of Monterey St, according to police.

Police said emergency responders arriving on the scene found a car that had flipped over onto its roof after apparently crashing into a sign with large posts.

The driver and only person inside the car, a woman from the unincorporated Santa Clara community of San Martin, had to be extricated from the car.

She was taken to a hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Police were investigating the factors that led to the crash later Saturday morning and had not yet determined whether the victim was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Anyone with information about the crash was urged to call Gilroy police Officer Eric Garcia at (408) 846-0350. Those who wish to remain anonymous may call 1-800-782-7463.
