SAN JOSE, Calif. —
Officers entered the home in the 1500 block of Piedmont Road to rescue the roommate in the closet, Sgt. Mike Sullivan said. Upon entering the home police found the body of the shooter, who apparently killed himself shortly after shooting his roommates.
Officers received an emergency call around 5 a.m. from a resident who said his roommate had shot him, Sullivan said. When police arrived at the residence the victim staggered out the front door and collapsed in front of the officers.
As the victim collapsed, officers heard three or four shots come from the home, Sullivan said.
"We think that is when he did it (shot himself)," Sullivan said, because police and SWAT team members were outside the home for close to seven hours and did not hear any other noise coming from the home.
A second roommate who was shot fled the house in his car to parked at a 7-Eleven at Berryessa and Piedmont roads and called police from there.
Police were in phone contact with the fourth roommate, Sullivan said. After the shooter did not respond to police attempts to contact him, SWAT team members were given the go ahead to enter the home and save the final roommate.
Both shooting victims were transported to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
