San Francisco police are asking for the public's help in finding an SUV that struck and critically injured a pedestrian in the city's North Beach neighborhood on Saturday night.

The hit-and-run was reported at 11:18 p.m. Saturday at the large intersection where Columbus Avenue and Stockton and Green streets meet, police spokesman Sgt. Mike Andraychak said.

The 62-year-old victim was walking east across Columbus Street outside of a crosswalk when he was struck by a white SUV traveling north on Columbus, Andraychak said.

The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he remains in critical condition today, according to Andraychak.

The driver fled the area after striking the victim and the suspect and vehicle had not been found as of this afternoon, he said.

The vehicle is described as a late-90s model Chevrolet SUV, possibly a Suburban, with tinted windows and a California license plate with the last two numbers "24," Andraychak said. The vehicle may have front-end damage to it caused by the collision, he said.
