Missing 12-Year-Old Admits To Lying About Assault

OAKLAND, Calif. —

The 12-year-old Oakland girl who showed up at Oakland Children's Hospital Sunday after disappearing for several days admitted to authorities that she lied about being sexually assaulted.

The girl was last seen leaving Frick Middle School in Oakland by her brother last Thursday.

She told police Sunday that she took a bus to a San Leandro home and that she was sexually assaulted by two adult men.

But Alameda County Sheriff's Deputies said Monday morning that they found there were a lot of inconsistencies in her story, and when she was questioned further, deputies say the girl admitted to making up the story.

Deputies said it looks like she was at someone's house the whole time. Her family said Sunday that they were just relieved to have her back.

“She's traumatized, but she's happy to be back with us,” said Lisa Taylor, the girl’s aunt.

Taylor said Sunday that the girl is an insulin dependent diabetic and she hadn’t received her medication for days.
