MODESTO, Calif. —

As has been the pattern throughout the Laci Peterson case, there are days when there is little or no new information and then days when there seems to be an avalanche of new developments. Friday the floodgates opened.

Ted Rowlands Friday Report From Modesto Sources on both sides of the case confirmed to KTVU that Scott Peterson had "some sort of relationship" with two women other than Amber Frey, although they would not go as far as to call them girlfriends.

In Los Angeles, meanwhile, KNBC-TV and Fox News was reporting that an unidentified woman was providing the Peterson defense team with crucial information that may lead to the "real killers" of Laci and her unborn son, Connor.

The woman reportedly alleges that the deaths are linked to a satanic or cult killing and that "crazies" were involved.

According to Fox News, the defense team was relocating the woman to a safe location and felt it was only days away from locating the real killers.

"We would not go out on such a limb if we weren't confident we could deliver," a defense source told Fox News. "We believe in a matter of days, the real killer may be found and police investigators will have egg on their face." The district attorney in Modesto has had no comment on the defense team claims.

Meanwhile, divers and boats equipped with side-scan sonar continued their meticulous search of the San Francisco Bay on Friday morning near a waterfront park where the badly decomposed bodies of Laci and Connor were discovered last month.

But in a prepared statement, the the Stanislaus County District Attorney's Office said the divers would be pulled out of the water Friday afternoon for the long holiday weekend.

Peterson has told authorities he went fishing at the nearby Berkeley Marina on Christmas Eve, the day Laci -- who was eight months pregnant at the time -- disappeared from the couple's Modesto home.

He was arrested in San Diego days after the bodies were recovered and was being held in Stanislaus County Jail without bail on two counts of capital murder. The Modesto District Attorney has said he would ask for the death sentence in the case.
