A police commander in Florida has reportedly said a dog does not face charges pending an investigation into the shooting of its master.
It happened in the town of Sebring, Florida over the weekend.
Gregoy Dale Lanier, 35, of Frostproof, Florida, said he had an unloaded .380 in his truck, according to police reports.
He was wrong on at least two counts. The gun, as it turns out, was indeed loaded, and it was a 9mm.
His dog apparently kicked the gun as it lay on the floor of the truck and it discharged, striking Lanier in the leg.
The man was not seriously injured.
The local Highlands Tribune newspaper writes that Police Cmdr. Steve Carr told them officers "did not arrest the dog or detain the animal, pending the investigation."
The dog is not talking.
