SAN FRANCISCO —

A former girlfriend of embattled San Francisco Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi has filed a police report alleging that Mirkarimi showed a "raging pit bull aggressiveness" after they began dating in 2007.

KTVU sources confirmed Monday that that the San Francisco District Attorney's office has received information regarding an ex-girlfriend of Mirkarimi and allegations of domestic violence that she is making against him.

A source told KTVU that an ex-girlfriend filed a police report Sunday afternoon at the city's northern district station.

The source said that report contains allegations by the former girlfriend about Mirkarimi's behavior during their time together.

According to the source, the woman told police that Mirkarimi once allegedly "grabbed her by her upper arms, shook her and pinned her against the wall," bruising one of her arms.

We are told the report also said that the relationship between the woman and Mirkirami ended after admitted he was seeing a woman in Venezuala and that he got her pregnant.

The source says the report indicates the woman stepped forward after Mirkarimi was charged with domestic violence against his wife, Eliana Lopez.

Both Mirkarimi and Lopez have denied there was any abuse. Mirkarimi's supporters say the case is politically motivated.

"What they're doing to Sheriff Mirkarimi in this court is a tragedy," said Mirkarimi backer Kary McElroy. "He's a good man."

A judge on Monday set a Feb. 24 trial date for Mirkarimi, who had requested a speedy trial. He said he wanted to reunite soon with his wife and two-year-old son, whom he's prohibited from contacting until the case is resolved.

"I will say, now that I've had a chance to review the materials that have been provided to me, it's one of the more overblown cases in the 28 years I've been in the building," Mirkarimi's attorney Bob Waggener.

Late Monday, Mirkarimi's attorney told KTVU that he has seen the allegations, but declined to comment prior to speaking with his client.

San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee continued to openly question whether Mirkarimi can serve effectively as sheriff. He told KTVU he plans to meet with the Mirkarimi this week about the scandal.

"Our premier responsibility's to serve the public," said Lee on Monday. "And if there's a distraction to that, I think the first order of business is whether the sheriff himself would consider taking a leave."

The district attorney’s office is evaluating the new charges against Mirkarimi, but there are reports that charges will likely not be filed because of the statute of limitations. Even if no charges are filed, KTVU was told the allegations could be used against Mirkarimi in his current case.

Mirkarimi will next be in court this Thursday, when his attorney will argue for the removal of a stay-away order that is  preventing him from contacting his wife Eliana Lopez and the couple's
2-year-old son Theo.
