New Details Released In Thanksgiving Murder Case

SAN FRANCISCO —

San Francisco police Friday said they had no suspects so far in their investigation the fatal Thanksgiving night shooting of a young woman near Japantown.

Thursday evening, people in the residential area came home to find crime scene tape roping off the entrance to the St. Francis Square Apartments.

Medina Abdulkader, 23, of San Francisco, was killed at about 8:55 p.m. at Buchanan Street and Geary Boulevard, Lt. Troy Dangerfield said.

Several neighbors told KTVU a group of people had gathered in front of the apartment building before the shooting. Then neighbors said they heard several gunshots.

“My mother…heard the shootings,” said neighbor Kathleen Herbert. “She administered CPR, but the young lady was already dead. She was probably in her early 20s, was well-dressed and she was shot from behind.”

Friday morning some of Abdulkader's family members returned to the scene of the crime with many more questions than answers. One man told KTVU that Abdulkader was his cousin. He says the family doesn't know who would have wanted to hurt her.

“I don' know. I don't know,” said the man who gave his name as Carey. “Nobody knows nothing. It's all a surprise. This is a surprise.”

There are several surveillance cameras in this area, so the family was hoping the video from those cameras will provide some clues.

According to the victim's family, Abdulkader didn't live in this apartment complex, but had relatives in the area.

San Francisco police said they do not have any information on the suspects. It was unclear what happened leading up to the shooting, according to Dangerfield.
