Oakland police investigating latest rash of street violence

OAKLAND, Calif. —

Oakland police are now investigating five shootings in in the past 24 hours that has left two people dead in a rash of street violence that began Thursday night.

The most recent shooting was reported at 4:55 a.m. near the intersection of Seminary Avenue and Tevis Street.

The victim was struck by the gunfire and taken to a hospital but his injuries are not considered life-threatening, according to police.

No suspect information was available because the victim was uncooperative with investigators, police said.

The male victim was sitting in his car when he was shot. It was unknown if the incident was a drive-by shooting.

 Neighbors said they heard three shots. The victim was transported to an area hospital. His condition is unknown.

Officers were also investigating a second Friday morning shooting at E. 10th Street at 26th Avenue. 

Police received a call at 8:42 p.m. about shots fired in the 800 block of 26th Street, Oakland police Officer A. Frye said. 

Officers who responded to the area found a man on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, Frye said. 

He was pronounced dead at the scene, Frye said.

 No suspects are in custody and police are investigating the homicide, Frye said.

There were two additional Thursday night shootings. There was no word from police as to the possibility that any of the shootings were related.
