Overdue Bay Area Couple Found In Monterey Wilderness

LOS PADRES NATIONAL FOREST, Calif. —

A Mountain View couple, who had failed to return after a weekend hiking trip. were found in Los Padres National Forest near Big Sur Tuesday after intensive air and land search, authorities said.

Brandon Boers, 29, and his wife Amanda, 26, were located at about 12:30 p.m., Monterey County sheriff's Cmdr. Mike Richards said.

Richards said the Boers were alive but he did not know their condition.

According to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office, Marine Capt. Brandon Boer, 29, and his wife Amanda, 26, were reported missing after Brandon did not show up for work Monday.

Brandon Boer is assigned to the Marine Reserve Center in San Jose while Amanda is a nursing student at San Jose State. The couple had told relatives and friends they would be back home on Sunday from a camping and hiking trip.

Boer's father told KTVU that the couple also left behind a description of where they were going to hike and instructions to alert authorities if they did not return.

The Boer's vehicle was found near China Camp, according to the sheriff's office.

The California Highway Patrol Monday assisted in an aerial search of trails leading away from where the vehicle was found.
