Palo Alto Police Beef Up Patrols To Stop Robberies

PALO ALTO-- —

Police have extra patrols walking the streets after more than a dozen recent robberies.

The latest incident involved an 82-year-old woman who was attacked on Sunday as she walked along Newell Road near Greenwood Avenue.

Police say she was assaulted from behind, knocked to the ground and left unconscious at about 10 A.M. as she walked home from church.

They say the robber took her purse and ran away.

Officers say it was the third such attack in a week and that since July, there have been 15 similar robberies in Palo Alto.

Police are encouraging people not to walk alone.
