PG&E Crews Working To Shut Off Gas To Ruptured Line

PLEASANT HILL, Calif. —

PG&E crews have secured the area near the Pleasant Hill BART station while they work to squeeze off a ruptured natural gas line, PG&E spokesman Joe Molica said.

The sheriff's office received a call at 9:12 a.m. reporting that a construction worker had hit a gas line near Jones Road and Coggins Drive in unincorporated Contra Costa County.

PG&E was notified at 9:19 a.m. and a crew was at the scene by 9:24 a.m., Molica said.

He said the break in the line is about 100 feet from the BART tracks.

"Crews are working as quickly and as safely as possible," Molica said, but so far there is no estimated time for when the leak will be repaired.

The first step is to get the gas shut off, Molica said. Crews need to squeeze the pipe off carefully so they don't damage the system.

PG&E crews have secured the area, he said.

Lee said that so far no evacuations had been necessary.
