Sonoma County sheriff's deputies arrested a Sebastopol man Tuesday after they allegedly found 49 explosive devices in his vehicle during a traffic stop.

Deputies also found materials used to make devices when they searched Robert Justin Vasseur's home, sheriff's Sgt. Michael Raasch said.

A deputy stopped Vasseur's silver Ford sedan in the 2300 block of state Highway 116 for two vehicle code violations around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Raasch said.

The deputy learned Vasseur's driver's license was suspended for failing to appear in court for a previous traffic ticket. He was arrested and his vehicle was searched, Raasch said.

During the search the deputy found 49 homemade explosive devices with fuses, Raasch said. Possession of the devices is a felony offense, Raasch said.

Deputies with training in explosive ordnances also responded and found materials used to make the devices, Raasch said.

Deputies then searched Vasseur's residence and found more homemade explosive devices, cardboard tubes, fuses and what appeared to be gunpowder, Raasch said. Deputies also confiscated several rifles and handguns in the residence, Raasch said.

Vasseur was booked into the Sonoma County jail for possession of explosive devices and material to make them and driving on a suspended license. He is being held under $50,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday afternoon in Sonoma County Superior Court.

Deputies also arrested 50-year-old Tamblyn Borton at Vasseur's residence for interfering with deputies when she allegedly lunged at them during the search of Vasseur's home, Raasch said.
