SF Mayor wants sheriff's aide to testify

Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi won't resign
Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi won't resign

SAN FRANCISCO —

San Francisco's mayor wants suspended Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi's former campaign manager to turn over her mobile phone records.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Mayor Ed Lee asked a judge on Thursday to compel Linnette Peralta Haynes to turn over almost four months of cell phone records and testify in the official misconduct proceedings against Mirkarimi.

Lee is trying to remove the sheriff from office following his guilty plea in a domestic violence case. City officials are seeking evidence that Mirkarimi tried to dissuade people from cooperating with police in that case.

Haynes served as Mirkarimi's campaign manager during his run for sheriff.

Her attorney, Eric Safire, said the phone records are outside the scope of what the mayor is entitled to.

The city's Ethics Commission is set to take up Mirkarimi's misconduct case on Monday.
