A San Francisco woman who was arrested on suspicion of felony child endangerment after police deemed her daughter's death suspicious on Sunday has been released from jail pending further investigation, a district attorney's office spokesman said Tuesday.

Heidi Heidelberg, 46, was arrested after her daughter, 16-year-old Jaynice Johnson, was found on the sidewalk around 12:45 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Quesada Avenue and Jennings Street, police said.

Johnson had only a faint pulse when she was found, and was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to police.

Investigators later went to the victim's home and, based on the conditions there, determined that some sort of abuse may have taken place and arrested Heidelberg.

However, Heidelberg's case has been discharged pending further investigation, district attorney's office spokesman Alex Bastian said.

No other information about the case, including Johnson's cause of death, was immediately available today.
