SAN FRANCISCO —

The San Francisco Police Department announced Thursday that it led a multi-agency operation the previous evening that target wanted suspects throughout the city, netting 70 arrests.

According to a press release issued Thursday, the operation was led by the department's violence reduction team and utilized officers from all ten district stations in partnership with the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department, state parole agents, and San Francisco adult probation officers.

Of the 70 arrests made in the ten-hour enforcement period of the operation, one person for possession of a firearm, and several others were taken into custody for outstanding warrants for violent crimes including manslaughter and robbery, according to police.  Four individuals wanted with outstanding federal warrants were also arrested. Of the individuals arrested, 20 are on active California Department of Corrections parole.

San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr said that the department would be leading similar operations on a regular basis in the future.

"Targeted enforcement such as fugitive apprehension is a key piece of our violence reduction strategy," Suhr said.
