OAKLAND, Calif. —

The Bay Area was feeling the impact of a strike at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach over the weekend.

At least one cargo ship destined for Southern California diverted to Oakland overnight.

Eight others have been sent to Oakland, as well.

He longshoremen in Los Angeles and Long Beach walked off the job to support clerical workers.

As the strike continues, the Port of Oakland may start to get more work.

"There may be a few ships that come through Oakland, but most of those are ones that normally make a call here anyway," said Craig Merrilees, spokesperson for ILWU.

Contract talks for the clerical workers were set to resume Sunday morning, the fifth day of their strike.

The longshoremen had been saying that terminal operators have outsourced local clerical jobs, but the shippers say that's not true.

The ports in Los Angeles and Long Beach are the busiest ports in the state.
