Woman Found Dead On Monterey County Roadside Identified

The Monterey County Sheriff's Office today identified the victim of an apparent homicide whose body was found east of Salinas Thursday morning as 28-year-old Shawna Elaine Marquez.

Deputies went to the area of 96 Zabala Road in unincorporated Monterey County around 4:15 a.m. after a motorist reported seeing a body on the side of the roadway, according to the sheriff's office.

Marquez had sustained serious blunt trauma wounds to her head and face, the sheriff's office reported.

Marquez, a transient out of Salinas, was last seen Wednesday night. An investigation into her death is ongoing.
