Woman Struck And Killed Walking On I-80 In Vallejo

VALLEJO, Calif. —

One person was pronounced dead Thursday evening in Vallejo on Interstate Highway 80 for reasons that are still under investigation, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

Officers responded to reports of an incident on eastbound Highway 80 near Tennessee Street at about 9 p.m., CHP Officer Ralph Caggiano said.

KTVU learned that a woman who was walking along the side of the freeway was struck and killed by a passing vehicle. There had been earlier reports of a woman wrapped in a blanket walking at the edge of the freeway waving her arms prior to the accident. There was no word as to what events had led up to the woman walking on the freeway.

The driver of the car that hit the woman stopped and cooperated with authorities. He was not charged.

A person was pronounced dead on the scene, Caggiano said, and one right lane along the highway was closed until 10:25 p.m. while officers investigated the incident.
