NFL teams testing out South Bay facilities for Super Bowl 50

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KTVU) -- Super Bowl 50 is five months away but already the NFL is testing out one of the facilities. This week, the Baltimore Ravens are practicing at San Jose State, which is brewing with excitement.

KTVU Fox 2 cameras were inside the practice facility at San Jose State as NFL players worked out side by side with student athletes.

"We love San Jose," said Baltimore Ravens Head Coach John Harbaugh. "For us, specifically San Jose worked out well for us facility wise."

The Ravens lost in Denver so instead of flying back east, they're staying in San Jose ahead of Sunday's game in Oakland. San Jose State is using the Ravens stay as practice themselves given the campus was chosen as a practice site for Super Bowl 50.

"Are we hoping for a return back in the South Bay in February? Certainly but we better get a couple wins here in September to make that a possibility," said Harbaugh.

San Jose State's Athletics Deputy Director Marie Tuite said the school's hosted NFL teams before but never practice for a Super Bowl team. The Spartans beat out the Cal Bears and the Oakland Raiders.

"Our facilities are located within a 63-acre large block," said Tuite. "The NFL was very particular about security and access into the facility. We can secure and close down the entire block," said Tuite.

The school has just finished renovating its locker rooms with fresh carpet, paint and fixtures for the Super Bowl. Students said they're fired up and all the exposure speaks volumes about the school.

"It shows how privileged we are as an athletics program and as a team to know these professional athletes are wanting to come to our school," said Student Athlete Vanessa Elgohary.

State Jose State isn't the only place gearing up for Super Bowl 50. The San Jose Marriot, which is the host hotel for the NFC team, is undergoing a $10.5 million renovation set to be done next month.
