Oakland fire dept. to interview construction crew regarding Edwards Fire

Oakland fire investigators said on Wednesday that they are looking into the possibility that the four-alarm grass fire near Merritt College was possibly started by construction activity.

The superintendent of a nearby construction site along Skyview Drive will be interviewed later on Wednesday, according to Oakland Battalion Chief Melinda Drayton.

The fire was reported about noon on Tuesday and charred 22 acres near Edwards Avenue, Mountain Boulevard and Skyview Drive. No one was injured and no homes, including ones under construction, were damaged.

As of Wednesday morning, 80 percent of the fire was contained, and crews hoped to have it fully contained by evening.
