Oakland Hills man beaten to death by son

A person has been arrested in connection with an Oakland assault described as a homicide that happened late Friday, police said this morning.

Officers responded to a call about an assault in the 6000 block of Margarido Drive at 11:38 p.m., police said. The officers found a 80-year-old Oakland resident, identified as Earnest Clarke, with major head trauma.

Clarke received medical attention, but succumbed to his injuries, police said.  His estranged son is now charged with his murder.

Oakland Police say Clarke was beaten to death in his home and suffered blunt force trauma to the head.

His middle-aged daughter was also injured in the attack. Neighbors say she was in bad shape when she was taken to the hospital. She has since been discharged.

38-year-old Aaron Clarke has been taken into custody. He's being held without bail and charged with two counts of murder.

Neighbors were seen mourning Earnest Clarke's death, saying that he was the light of the neighborhood.
