Oakland police arrest man for allegedly brandishing knife on BART and cutting victim's thumb

- A man wanted for brandishing a knife on a BART train and cutting a victim on the thumb has been arrested, following a string of other recent stabbings and other dangerous encounters.

On Friday, BART officials said 59-year-old Jamarr M. Coleman was arrested by  Oakland police on Thursday. Police say he has priors for assault and gun possession.

Coleman is suspected of getting into an argument with a rider aboard a Warm Springs-bound train Saturday night that was stopped at MacArthur Station at approximately 9:15 pm.

BART surveillance video shows Coleman brandished a knife at the victim.  The adult male victim received a one-inch cut to the thumb, which was non-life threatening, BART officials said.  Efforts to immediately reach Coleman or his attorney were not immediately successful on Friday.

A week ago, 21-year-old Joshua Fecker was arrested in connection with a stabbing that occurred at Warm Springs BART station early on Aug. 23.

In July, John Cowell was charged with fatally stabbing 18-year-old Nia Wilson who was killed at the MacArthur BART station in Oakland. Her sister was also injured.
