OPD searching for kidnapping, robbery, attempted sexual assault suspect

Police in Oakland are searching for a suspect in connection with a kidnapping, robbery, and attempted sexual assault that happened on Thursday.

OPD said around 12:06 a.m. a 29-year-old woman told police that while she was walking on the 3300 block of Piedmont Ave. near Randwick Ave., she was approached from behind by a male suspect who pressed a metal object into her back. The woman believed it to be a weapon so she was forced to walk with the suspect to a secluded area.

Police said he robbed the woman and attempted to sexually assault her, but the woman put up a fight and was able to fend off the suspect who then got away on foot.

The suspect is described as a 25-30 year-old male, unknown race, medium build, and was last seen wearing a black and white scarf and a dark hooded sweater.

Photos of the suspect were taken from area surveillance footage.

OPD are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact Crime Stoppers of Oakland, (510) 777-8572, who is offering a reward of up to $7,500 for information leading to an arrest in this case.
