Overflow shelter for fire victims opens in Mill Valley

- A shelter opened this morning in Mill Valley for evacuees from the fires raging in the North Bay, a Marin County spokeswoman said.

The shelter is at a seminary known as the Seminary at Strawberry at 201 Seminary Drive, said Laine Hendricks, a public information officer for Marin County.

"Evacuees can go directly to the shelter," Hendricks said.

The shelter is staffed by Red Cross personnel and workers from the Marin County Office of Emergency Services and the Department of Health and Human Services, she said.

"We are working with the Marin Humane Society. The shelter can accommodate domestic animals" such as cats and dogs, Hendricks said.
