Petaluma dad hears from son days after Nepal quake

PETALUMA, Calif. (KTVU) - On Tuesday night KTVU learned that a Petaluma man who was on Mount Everest is safe.

KTVU spoke with the father of 21-year-old Spencer Dickinson on Monday. Spencer's father was anxious to hear from his son following the devastating earthquake. 

Spencer's father tells KTVU he got a call about 8 p.m. Tuesday, and heard his son say "hi dad."

His father said he screamed with joy.

Spencer told him he was on a satellite phone and could only talk a minute.

The young man was being helicoptered off Everest, and heading to Kathmandu.

Spencer told him they have been taking bodies off the mountain. 

At this point, his father is unclear on what's next for Spencer, but he does know that his son is alive and safe.
