Hayes Valley shelter in place advisory cleared, was prompted by suicide attempt

A shelter-in-place advisory in San Francisco's Hayes Valley neighborhood this morning was prompted by a suicide attempt but the advisory has since been lifted, police said.

The city's Department of Emergency Management wrote on Twitter at 11:18 a.m. about police activity in the area of Oak Street between Webster and Buchanan streets and advised people to avoid the area or shelter in place.

Police spokeswoman Officer Giselle Talkoff said shortly before noon that the police activity was related to a suicide attempt but that the person has since been taken into custody and the area is being reopened to the public.
