Man shot in head on I-880 in San Leandro, sb lanes shut down

Southbound lanes were shut down early Monday morning on Interstate Highway 880 in San Leandro after there was a shooting that left one man in critical condition after he was shot in the head, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The shooting was reported at 2:38 a.m. at Lewelling Boulevard, where traffic was being diverted.

A CHP officer told KTVU that it's unclear exactly what happed, but a man, who was driving with three passengers, was shot in the head and was taken to the hospital in critical condition. CHP officers were interviewing those passengers about 5 a.m.

The suspect vehicle, described only as white, got away. The CHP officer said the witnesses described "multiple occupants" in the car where the shots were fired.

The highway reopened shortly after 9 a.m.
