The University of California at Berkeley police department sent out an alert Wednesday saying they were responding to a "report of a sighting of a subject with a gun."

The alert, sent out at 11:50 a.m., advised people to voide the area of the Martin Luther King Jr. and Cesar Chavez buildings.

Within 30 minutes, police said it was a false alarm. The man with gun is an armed security guard, they said, with a legitimate purpose on campus.
