Police search for suspects in fatal East San Jose shooting

- SAN JOSE, Calif.  (KTVU) – An intense manhunt came up empty early Monday for two suspects seen running away from a fatal overnight shooting in East San Jose.

San Jose Police said officers responded to the 2000 block of Lavonne Avenue just before midnight to reports of shots fired.

As officers were en route to the scene, the call was upgraded to a person shot. Arriving officers discovered the victim’s body next to a white SUV with its windows shot out.

“I heard four shots,” said Norman Guerrero who lives near the shooting scene. “My son came in (to the room) and asked if I heard the shots. I said ‘Yes.’ He said he heard a woman (outside) saying ‘Oh My God!’”

Witnesses told police they saw two suspects running from the scene. Both were Latino. One was dressed in blue jeans and a blue shirt. The other was wearing red shirt and khaki pants.

One of the suspects was seen carrying a gun in his hand as he fled.

A neighborhood search for the pair using officers on foot and a helicopter came up empty.

Police had not released a motive or the identity of the victim.
