More progress on Bear Fire in Santa Cruz

- More progress has been made on the Bear Fire in unincorporated Santa Cruz County, with the fire now at 75 percent containment and 391 acres burned, Cal Fire said this morning.

Cal Fire Division Chief Angela Bernheisel has said the fire is "calming down." Yesterday at this time, the total acreage burned also stood at 391, with 50 percent containment.

Crews are continuing to establish and reinforce containment lines around the fire and conduct fire suppression repair, Cal Fire said.

Today's temperatures will range from 71-75 degrees, with minimum humidity of 30 percent, and north winds are expected to be six to nine mph, increasing after midnight with gusts up to 25 mph.

Evacuation orders are still in effect for Bear Creek Canyon Road, Deer Creek Road, Rons Road, Dons Road, and their tributary streets in the fire area.

The fire started Monday night at 10:37 p.m. and has destroyed four structures.
