Thousands of runners hit the streets of San Francisco on Sunday, for the annual spectacle known as the Bay to the Breakers.

The top runners started at 8 a.m.

Forty-thousand people signed up to run.

The early morning rain did not dampen spirits.

While the top runners crossed the finish line, there were still people waiting to start the race.

The men's winner was Gabriel Geay with a time of 35:01.

The women's champ is Caroline Rotich at 39:28.

This was the 108th running of the Bay to Breakers.

The 7.46 mile run is known for participants dressed in all sorts of wild costumes.

This year's event did not disappoint.

People were dressed as superheroes, animals and avocadoes.
