OAKLAND, Calif. (KTVU) - Firefighters responded to a blaze at Schnitzer Steel near the Port of Oakland Saturday afternoon, a dispatcher confirmed.
The fire was reported at 3:57 p.m. at the recycled steel business at 1101 Embarcadero West near the Port of Oakland, and firefighters had it under control at 6:17 p.m., the dispatcher said.
The Oakland Fire Department responded to the blaze and was helped out by San Francisco Fire, who sent a fireboat, the dispatcher said.
Several individuals put up posts and photographs of smoke from the blaze on social media. The smoke was visible for miles.
