Retired NBA players take part in BIG3

Retired NBA players taking part in the BIG3 3-on-3  basketball tournament are also giving back to the community while they are in the Bay Area.

Rapper and Actor Ice Cube is the co-founder of the BIG3, which will air on KTVU starting at 5 p.m. Friday.

Several players including Barron Davis, Carlos Boozer, and Marcus Banks participated in a grocery giveaway sponsored by the Ricky Davis Legacy Foundation.

They visited three homeless encampments in Oakland and donated bags full of fresh produce and toiletries like deodorant, toothbrushes, and socks.

Davis teamed up with community groups Daylight Foods and Operation Dignity to provide the care bags.

The Ricky Davis Legacy Foundation is based out of Houston but players are visiting the homeless in every city where they are holding Big 3 tournaments.

Davis says it’s important to let the homeless know people care about them.

“It hits your heart you know when you see it. You know people just there living in the tents, it’s tough. Being able to be blessed and give back is a great thing,” said Davis.
