Single mother killed in hit-and-run in South San Francisco on Saturday

SAN FRANCISCO (KTVU) - Teresa Gonzales of south San Francisco was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in the 200 block of El Camino real near Brentwood bowl on Saturday, police said. 

After a night of music and drinks, she was crossing to street to catch an Uber and was hit in the southbound lanes.

The collision happened just before midnight, according to police. Officers found an unconscious woman lying in the street, and firefighter-paramedics took her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to police.

"Somebody is trying to hide the fact that they had a possible DUI, and now it's vehicular manslaughter,” said Mike Fry, a friend of Gonzales, “I ain’t stopping until I find who did this to our friend. She didn't deserve to be hit and left in the street like this.”

Gonzales, 44, was a single mother of two daughters and was described as a loving, family friend.

“I can't understand how anybody couldn't have seen this happen,” Fry said. “She was a beautiful human being and she gave everything she had to everybody."

Raquelle Duran said Gonzales was her best friend, her life, and more. "She was more than sister she was my mother she was my best friend  and it's unbelievable and it don't know what to do without her," Duran said. 

Gonzales' family started a GoFundMe to help with the costs. By Sunday night it had raised over $3,000 of the $10,000 goal.

The suspect vehicle is a black Toyota or Lexus made around 1998-2000, probably with mild to moderate damage to the right front end and hood, police said.
