San Jose Police shoot suspct in early morning confrontation

- San Jose Police say a gunman is in the hospital, after officers were forced to open fire.

It happened near Fruitdale and Meridian Avenues, just before 3:30 a.m. Saturday.

Police say the man shot first, and officers fired back, hitting him at least once.

He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

No police officers were injured in the incident.

It is unclear what led up to the confrontation in the first place.

San Jose Police will hold a news conference at 3 p.m. Saturday to discuss the shooting.
