2nd home burglary suspect arrested after confrontation led to shooting

San Mateo Police have located and arrested a home burglary suspect after a confrontation with police ended in gunfire early Wednesday morning.

Residents in the area north of Laurelwood Park along Hillsdale Blvd, Verdun Avenue, Countryside Drive, and Green Oak Court were asked to shelter in place as police conducted a door-to-door search for the suspect. That order has since been lifted.

The shooting happened sometime after 2:45 a.m. Wednesday morning on Green Oak Court.

According to police, they responded to a report of an interrupted home burglary on that street.

When they arrived on scene they encountered a female suspect who tried to run away.

There was some sort of altercation between that suspect and an officer and investigators say the officer fired his gun "in defense of his life."

The suspect was not hit by the gunfire and was safely taken into custody moments later.

Neither the officer or the suspect was hurt in this altercation.

After this incident, police discovered that there was a second male suspect still on the run and set up a perimeter to locate him.

As of 7:45 a.m. police said they had located and arrested the second suspect.
