Sex offender clinic sparks controversy in San Francisco neighborhood

A clinic for sex offenders is moving from its current San Francisco location on Market Street, to the Duboce Triangle neighborhood, much to the chagrin of residents.

A treatment program called "Sharper Future" is planning to move into the former location of "Out of the Closet" at the corner of Church and Duboce, just across from a Safeway grocery store, and on the edge of a residential neighborhood.

Mary Perry-Miller, who runs the program, says they expect to move into the new location in February.  She says 20-30 sex offenders will be present during the day.  She says they will all be wearing ankle bracelets and will be prohibited from hanging around the center before and after their appointments.

Supervisor Scott Weiner tells KTVU he wishes the program would have done a better job with community outreach, given that many people in the neighborhood were unaware of the pending move.
