Shootout between 2 vehicles on Saturday remains a mystery

El Cerrito police responded to reports of a shootout between two vehicles on Saturday afternoon but have not yet determined whether there were victims or who the suspects are, according to police officials.

Calls came in about subjects in two vehicles exchanging gunfire at 4:13 p.m., Sgt. Gil Tang said. According to the callers, the vehicles were traveling southbound on San Pablo Avenue from Tehama Avenue when the shooting began.

Around 12 gunshots were heard, police said. Responding officers later located 13 shell casings at the scene.

As of this afternoon, Tang said no victims have come forward. No suspects have been identified and few details are known, according to Tang.

The incident occurred near Richmond two days after 20-year-old Ronique Gardner-Williams was killed, possibly when occupants of one vehicle fired into another, at San Pablo Avenue and Hilltop Drive in that city.

Tang said police are not currently investigating Saturday's incident as being connected to other recent shootings.
