Sonoma County deputy crashes car into house during chase

Authorities say a deputy's patrol car slammed into a house and burst into flames during a chase that reached speeds of 100 mph (161 kph) in Northern California.

The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office says the deputy is expected to recover from injuries sustained in the fiery crash before dawn Sunday in Bodega Bay.

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports flames quickly engulfed the car and the house. The deputy was able to free himself, and he and another deputy got everyone safely out of the house.

Officials say the deputy was chasing suspects in recent thefts.

Highway 1 was closed in both directions for several hours after the crash.

The deputy's name and the extent of his injuries were not disclosed.
