While the 49ers and Raiders are not in the Super Bowl, it was still a memorable weekend for both Bay Area franchises.

Former 49ers owner, Eddie DeBartolo, Jr. and legendary Raiders quarterback, Kenny "The Snake" Stabler were among the men selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

KTVU sports anchor, Mark Ibanez, first tweeted two reliable sources mentioned that DeBartolo was chosen for the Hall of Fame.

DeBartolo owned the 49ers for more than two decades. He's credited for helping turn the team into perennial winners, and 5-time Super Bowl champions.

When news spread of his selection, he said he heard from about 75 former players congratulating him.

Stabler spent 15 seasons in the NFL. He won a league MVP, and led the Oakland Raiders to a Super Bowl championship for the 1976 season.

Stabler, died last year from colon cancer. The New York Times recently reported that researchers studying his brain after his death, discovered he suffered from CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy), a brain disease linked to repeated blows to the head.

Stabler was a favorite among Raiders fans over the years, for his free wheeling passing style, and his personality off the field.

Former 49ers pass rusher, Kevin Greene was also selected to the Hall of Fame, along with Tony Dungy, Brett Favre, Marvin Harrison, Orlando Pace and Dick Stanfel.

Former 49ers wide receiver Terrrell Owens was a finalist, but was not selected.

The enshrinement ceremony will take place in Canton, Ohio on August 6. Stabler's family will ask John Madden to present him at the ceremony, while DeBartolo's oldest daughter, will introduce him.

In other NFL news, current 49er wide receiver, Anquan Boldin was selected as the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year, for his contributions off the field.
