SAN FRANCISCO —

There has been much discussion what San Francisco Giants pitching ace Matt Cain was going to get his teammates as a thank you for their efforts in helping him toss the first perfect game in the club’s history.

A car? A trip to an exotic location? Cash?

It appears the gift will be a bottle of extremely rare whisky.

Crown Royal revealed Tuesday that Cain has purchased bottles of Crown Royal Extra Rare - a small reserve of the final of batch of whiskies that were saved from the renowned LaSalle Distillery near Montreal.

He will dole out the bottles to all his teammates and coaches with a special fabric pouch containing a thank you message during the upcoming home stand.

The bottles sell at retail for $129.99.

“Throwing a perfect game is a team effort – without those great plays by Melky and Gregor, it wouldn’t have happened,” said Cain in a prepared statement.

Cain followed up his perfect game last week by persevering through five difficult innings Monday night for another victory as the Giants defeated the Los Angeles Angels 5-3.

Before the game, Cain recorded a Top Ten list for David Letterman's "The Late Show." He had just four strikeouts Monday night after recording 14 in his perfect game.
