UFC.com hacked due to its support of SOPA

Many media journalists and fans took jabs at UFC Co-Owner, Lorenzo Fertita as he and the UFC organization openly pledged in support of the new SOPA bill which will essentially provide the government with legal rights to censor and prosecute individuals who steal copyrighted material and videos from online content providers.

On Sunday, January 22, 2012 UFC.com had been hacked by an organization by the name of UGNazi who is taking full credit for having redirected the entire UFC website as a means of retaliation to any and all organization seeking to support SOPA. Also, The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) twitter account remains hacked and under the control of UGNAZI.

From a business standpoint, it is clear that the UFC organization is seeking to protect its content from misuse as its pay-per-view shares are directly impacted by illegal streams or downloads. However there are many who can equally argue that SOPA may not be the answer or single solution. Many mixed martial arts journalists and fans argue that the SOPA bill provides unlimited power and political abuse of the government over all online users.

Today, January 24, 2012 the UFC released this statement to the media:

"On Sunday, January 22nd, the UFC.com website was redirected by a criminal hacker to another website," a statement provided to MMA Fighting read. "The UFC website was quickly restored to the control of the UFC, and there is no evidence suggesting that any confidential information belonging to the company or its customers was compromised by the re-direction of the website. UFC representatives are continuing to investigate the matter and are working with law enforcement agents to prosecute those involved."
