Strong winds knock down trees, cause power outages in South Bay

Strong winds gusting of up to 40 mph knocked down trees and caused power outages for thousands early Monday in the South Bay.

At its peak, PG&E reported about 11,000 customers were without power. As of 6:30 a.m., just 2,500 were without power, PG&E reported.

Tim Messier’s tree fell in the backyard on Mount Vernon in San Jose about 3 a.m. Wendi Amber Zuccaro said her fence was damaged in Campbell and her power went out for a while.

By sunrise on Monday, the winds had mostly died down.
