Some contractors made a surprising find while digging in the front yard of a home in San Francisco.

The crew of electricians was working in a job in the Laurel Heights neighborhood, when they uncovered an old gravestone.

They were unaware that they were working on the former site of the Laurel Hill Cemetery, which was relocated to Colma in the 1930's.

At that time, city officials passed an ordinance banning cemeteries within city limits, and the burials were removed.

Some of the gravestones and bodies were left behind.

A casket containing the remains of a 2-year-old  girl who died in 1878 was found underneath a home in the Richmond District in May 2016. She was identified and re-buried a year later.  Read story
