FREMONT, Calif. - An Uber Eats driver was booked into Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of brandishing a weapon and making criminal threats after threatening a Fremont couple with knives, police said.
The altercation began Saturday evening at about 6:15 p.m. on the 3900 block of Monroe Avenue in Fremont, when a couple returned home by car to find a black Jetta with a man inside blocking the entry gate to their apartment complex, police said.
The couple honked at the Jetta, only to have the man — later identified by police as 47-year-old Emmanuel Balacot — get out and begin yelling, swearing and spitting on their car, police said.
Balacot then allegedly went back to the Jetta and pulled out two large knives, one of them a foot long, and threatened to stab the couple, according to police. He then fled, but not before the couple took a picture of his car.
A spokesman for Uber told the San Francisco Chronicle that Balacot will not be able to access his account while the company looks into the incident.
