UC Berkeley Police investigating sexual assault at campus performance venue

BERKELEY (BCN)-- Police at the University of California at Berkeley are investigating a sexual assault that occurred last month on campus, police said today.

The assault occurred sometime during the day in late August at Zellerbach Hall, a performance venue on the campus.

Police said the female victim, who is not affiliated in any way with the university, was sexually assaulted by someone she knew.

The victim reported the assault to university police.

Police said they have a suspect and officers are investigating.

The suspect's identity was not released.

According to police, eight percent of sexual assaults and rapes are perpetrated by someone the survivor knew and on college campuses, 90 percent of sexual assault survivors knew their attacker.
