UC student hospitalized after being sexually assaulted on walk home

A student at the University of California at Berkeley is in the hospital after being sexually assaulted while walking home on Nov. 27, campus police said Saturday.

The student was walking from the Downtown Berkeley BART station at around 10:30 p.m. when she was sexually assaulted with the intent to rape, police said.

She fought back and managed to get away. A campus security authority reported the incident to university police on Friday, but police have not yet determined the incident's exact location.

he suspect is described as a white man in his mid-30s standing 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing 220 pounds with a muscular build. He has short, light brown hair and stubble.

The man was wearing a flat-billed, black baseball cap reading SF in white stitching, dark jeans, dark shoes and a plain white T-shirt under a black and red flannel shirt.

The suspect did not appear to be homeless, police said. Anyone with information about this incident has been asked to call city police at (510) 981-5900.
