VIDEO: Large shark spotted swimming near Pacifica Pier

A large shark was spotted swimming about 100 yards off the Pacifica Municipal Pier on Friday.

The shark was spotted by a CHP helicopter crew at around 12:30 p.m. The crew estimated the shark to be a Great White approximately 10 to 12 feet long.

CHP notified Pacifica Police who confirmed the shark was still swimming in the area at 1:00 p.m.  Officers placed signs at the entrance to Sharp Park Beach to warn the public.

Shark sightings close to the pier are not common.  The last time a shark was reported in that area was June 2017, according to Captain Chris Clements with the Pacifica Police Department. He added that the Pacific Ocean is shark habitat and people should always be aware of their surroundings.
