A man was killed and two others were taken to the hospital early Thursday morning, police said, while officers were seen recovering some type of weapon at the scene.

The crash between two sedans occurred about 2:30 a.m. at 98th and Bancroft avenues, Oakland police said. It's not clear if the weapon has any connection to the fatal crash. Police would not comment on the discovery witnessed by KTVU.

One of the drivers involved in the crash fled the scene, police said, although no suspect description was made available.

Some neighbors were woken to the sound of a loud crash. Joi Glass said it sounded like an explosion. "A loud boom, a loud crash," she said, adding that this is a "really dangerous intersection, it's really dangerous."

An AC Transit supervisor said two bus lines are impacted and will have to be rerouted around the crash scene.
